Connor Hellebuyck Trade For Florida Panthers A Pipe Dream At This Point

The Florida Panthers dealing for goaltender Connor Hellebuyck at this point is a pipe dream, unless the Panthers include centre Anton Lundell in a deal to Winnipeg. A recent report suggests the Panthers could pursue Hellebuyck, but cap room is a problem, a lack of top prospects is a problem and a lack of upcoming 1st round draft picks is a problem. The logical goalie to move to Winnipeg in a Hellebuyck trade scenario would be Jacob Markstrom and his $6 million AAV contract (his contract helps a deal work for Florida to fit under the cap). Markstrom is a starter in the NHL and he won't want to sit behind Hellebuyck, so maybe he is okay moving to Winnipeg to be their starter (he has a 20 team no trade clause). If Florida doesn't include centre Anton Lundell however in this trade scenario (he has a $5 million AAV), the trade is going nowhere. Would Winnipeg trade Hellebuyck for Lundell and Markstrom? This Connor Hellebuyck trade proposal to Vegas here (by Bleacher Report) makes a lot of sense, but with some adjustments. Vegas needs to improve their goaltending and Hellebuyck would provide the Golden Knights with a star goalie to keep them in the conversation for the Stanley Cup. If Vegas goaltender Adin Hill would waive his partial no-trade clause to go to Winnipeg, it would pave the way for a deal to be done. Hill had a down year in 2025-26 (but then again, so did Hellebuyck), so he has a lot to prove if he were to go to a new situation. The Vegas 1st round pick in 2028 would be a must to be included for Winnipeg. The Jets may prefer targeting Manitoba forward Brett Howden in this trade scenario instead of Braeden Bowman. Howden doesn't have trade protection, but a trade back home would certainly be warmly received. The combined salary of Hill and Howden is $8.75 million annually (Hellebuyck's annual salary is $8.5 million). Vegas would need to throw in a prospect to Winnipeg and the combined trade of Hill, Howden, 2028 Vegas 1st round pick and a prospect may be enough to get Hellebuyck to Vegas.

Matthew Knies Trade Talk Is Back. Trading Knies Would Be A Major Mistake For Toronto!

Trade talk is back involving Toronto Maple Leafs power forward Matthew Knies. Trading Knies would be a major mistake by Toronto! Knies is about to turn just 24-years-old and he has three productive NHL seasons under his belt, including 58 points in 78 games in 2024-25 and an increase to 66 points in 79 games in 2025-26. Arrows are pointing upwards for Knies! 

Knies is signed to a team-friendly $7.75 million AAV contract that won't expire until after the 2030-31 season. Compare Knies' deal to the contract ask of Anaheim 22-year-old forward Cutter Gauthier and you see where the value is with the Knies contract. Gauthier just broke through in his second NHL season, with 69 points in 76 games (similar numbers as Knies), yet he's looking for a contract that is roughly double that of what Knies receives annually. Buium was a main piece of the return in last season's Quinn Hughes trade with Minnesota. With a rapidly rising NHL salary cap, Buium's contract is likely to age well for Vancouver.
